The Legacy of Excellence: When legendary genetics meet proven performance, the result is Patagonia’s Chilkoot—a herdsire that defines the gold standard for the modern alpaca. Carrying the torch of his world-renowned sire, Patagonia’s Lennox, Chilkoot is a masterclass in phenotype and fiber. He is a compact, heavy-boned powerhouse boasting a "typey" head and a gentle temperament that makes him a joy to work with. His fleece is nothing short of breathtaking: exceptionally fine, luscious to the touch, and radiating a bright luster that demands attention. Evaluated by Senior Judge Amanda VandenBosch with a prestigious “A-” rating, Chilkoot has solidified his place as a premier breeding stallion, offering ranchers the rare combination of high-density fiber and remarkable micron consistency. Chilkoot’s pedigree reads like a "Who’s Who" of alpaca royalty. His sire, the 9x Champion and 14x Get of Sire winner Patagonia’s Lennox, remains one of the greatest herdsires in history, ranking in the top 0.5% of all alpacas tested for density. This elite production is mirrored on the maternal side by Patagonia’s Augusta, a 3x Color Champion and AOBA Reserve Champion. While an early eye injury may have shortened Chilkoot’s own time in the spotlight, his brief but brilliant show career—including a Reserve Color Championship at the Great Western Alpaca Show and a 2nd place at the AOBA Nationals—proved he had the "it" factor from the very beginning. The true measure of a herdsire, however, is the quality of the crias he leaves behind, and Chilkoot is a proven champion maker with an incredible knack for producing dark fiber. Remarkably, 64% of Chilkoot’s offspring are black, making him a dream match for breeders looking to anchor deep color without sacrificing fleece quality. His offspring are dominating the show ring, headlined by the sensational Patagonia Estates Sakima, a 6x True Black Champion and now an ACE Herdsire who sired the 2025 AOA National Dark Supreme Champion. From the Color Championship wins of Estates Mauna Lani to the stunning success of 2x Color Champion, Bluebonnet Hills Terrebonne, Chilkoot consistently throws elite fineness, incredible staple length, and championship-grade conformation across a spectrum of colors. Whether you are looking to elevate your herd’s fiber stats or produce the next generation of banner winners, Patagonia’s Chilkoot is the prepotent sire you’ve been waiting for.
